Divergent
Review by Niko C
For our first choice reading book of the year, I read Veronica Roth’s Divergent. This fictional title takes place in a dystopian world loosely played off the city of Chicago. Within the land there are five factions: Candor, Erudite, Amity, Abnegation, and Dauntless. When a person reaches adulthood he or she must choose a faction to spend the rest of life in. When the main character Beatrice is due to make her decision, it takes courage, bravery, and the willingness to step outside her comfort zone.
When Beatrice first arrives at her new faction, she is completely blindsided by the seriousness of it. They are making her jump off bridges, fight her friends, and do other things that can get her hurt or killed by. When she finds out only a certain amount of people make the faction, she starts to really change her mentality and show signs of ambition.
Divergent is a very action packed book that kept me turning the page. Between Beatrice’s fight to stay in the faction, bullies that mistreat her, and brewing romances taking place, there’s always something coming up in the story that will capture you by surprise. If you aren’t a huge reader but you want a story that will keep you interested and entertained, I would select this title. I found myself finishing the book in no time, and I’m sure you will too.
