Hole in my Life

Hole in My Life
Review by Shelly R
Hole in My Life by Jack Gantos is a memoir written by a successful children's author  about a young adult with a passion of writing who made many mistakes. Money was tight and he was hopeless of getting into college to achieve his dream of being an author. And because of that, Jack finds himself in a serious crime. Through the book, he explains how he got into crime,  his experiences in prison, and how he never gave up on writing.
Overall, I thought the book was inspiring with the message “never give up on your dream.” Although it does start off slowly, what kept me reading was wondering “What did he do to go to federal prison?” The book has suspense and action which picks the story up. Jack always knew he wanted to be an author but I’d love to ask him, “How and when did you know you wanted to write children’s books?”
I enjoyed the memoir, but it’s a type a book you only read once and it wasn’t an all time favorite.
