Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie

Sleeping Freshman Never Lie by David Lubar
Review by Jake M.

Sleeping Freshman Never Lie by David Lubar was a very intriguing book. The book provides a very interesting point of view on the challenges of entering the world of high school, and the main character, Scott, puts a humorous spin on his adventures at Zengar High. This book will drag you into its plot and you will definitely want to keep turning the pages throughout the chapters.
A new freshman in high school makes new friends, loses old ones, and finds out more about himself and other people than he ever has before. Scott Hudson is an incoming freshman at Zengar High School. He is convinced that throughout his freshman experience, it will be an almost picture perfect year. He will stay with his friends, he will get a girlfriend, and we will get great grades. However, as the school year begins, some of Scott’s expectations about high school come crashing down. Seniors threaten him and take his stuff, and a girl he has known since pre-school is suddenly the most popular girl in his grade. On top of it all, Scott’s mom tells him that she is pregnant. Scott joins all sorts of different clubs to try to get his crush, Julia, to notice him, all the while balancing issues with friends, family, and school. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read and relate to a funny book about the adventures of starting high school. Some scenes in this book do a great job in describing real life issues that high school can bring, such as losing friends and gaining new ones.

This book does an amazing job of describing the worries and excitement of starting high school, maintaining a humorous undertone in a book that contains some serious elements. I think that David Lubar did a great job with this book. Sleeping Freshman Never Lie is a funny yet serious book which is a great read for anyone wanting to relate to the issues of a new freshman, laugh out loud at some parts, and keep turning the pages all the way until the last chapter.
