The Help

The Help
Review by Susan K.

The Help is filled with events that are both thrilling and exciting. When I got a hold of this book I’ve already watched the movie and let me tell you, the book is simply (in my opinion), just better. There are three narrators that switch off every 1-3 chapters, including Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter. These 2 black and white women explain the prejudice acts around the town of Jackson, Mississippi.
The Help realistically explains life during the 60’s by incorporating segregation between the white Americans and black Americans. Because of the practical life in Jackson, Skeeter, who is best friends with the most popular girl in Jackson, made up her mind about changing the perspectives of most naive women. Skeeter fulfilled her stealthy goal with the help her good friends who turn out to be maids.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, especially after reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I truly recommend this to anyone who thrives for stimulating stories because this book does a great job of portraying colorful personalities. It also does a fantastic job of showing what true friendship is and what is not. The Help made me realize how different society was only 57 years ago; I absolutely adore the narrators and Kathryn Stockett, the author who absolutely nailed writing this novel.
