We Were Liars

We Were Liars
Book Review by Susan K.
This exquisite story has made me want to retain every last page of this book. When you think of a summer vacation off an island, you may think of a picture perfect sunset with a picture perfect family. But, We Were Liars is a book that shows extravagant suspense on what really happened to Cadence Sinclair Eastman’s summer fifteen.
We Were Liars starts off with Cadence portraying her family as an effortless yet perfect family, “Welcome to the Sinclair family. No one is a criminal. No one is an addict, No one is a failure.” (E. Lockhart, We Were Liars). But little do you know, throughout the book you will encounter a grand page turner that will possibly inspire you to think about the price of your actions. Cadence lost most of her memories from summer fifteen because of her migraines and amnesia that she acquired the following summer. During summer seventeen she determined to go back to the Beechwood (an island that her grandad owned) and fulfill her lost memories. Summer seventeen was when the desperate truth unraveled for Cadence.

Cadence refers to herself and her beloved Gat, Mirren, and Johnny as “Liars”. She falls deeply in love with Gat and everyone of Cadence’s family keeps one tragic memory away from her. Throughout the book you will slowly strip away all the indications and discover what everyone wasn’t telling Cadence. This was an absolute gripping story and the author did a brilliant job of capturing my attention, it was as if the she wanted me to skip to the last page to solve the mystery. I advise anyone who thrives for romance, mystery, and self reflecting books to read We Were Liars. I believe that it has put a whole new perspective whether or not my own actions can deeply affect the future of my happiness.
