Thirteen Reasons Why

Thirteen Reasons Why Book Review
By Allison C
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher was a compelling book to read, always leaving you wanting to read more. When reading the first chapter, you are instantly hooked and do not want to stop reading. You start with very little background story as to who Hannah Baker is, but as the book progresses you figure out her character. The author does an excellent job in making the characters relatable. I found myself relating to Clay as he was listening to the tapes, laughing, crying, and yelling with frustration. Thirteen Reasons Why tells the story of Hannah Baker through the perspective of Clay Jensen. Hannah reveals in 13 tapes what events led to her committing suicide, 13 people receive these tapes learning that they are part of her story. Throughout the story Clay navigates through his town, anticipating how he has a role in Hannah’s death. The book addresses a very important topic that many people around the world witness today.

I would recommend this book to teenagers, especially in high school because I feel it would open their eyes to how their actions can affect their peers. If you are a person who likes to be involved in a story or experience what the characters are going through, this is a perfect book for you. This book has loads of cliff-hangers, therefore you never want to stop reading, so once you get pulled into the book you have to be devoted to keeping up with what is going on. I enjoyed reading this book and I hope you do to!
